Christmas time is coming soon!

December 17, 2014

Dear Readers,

I can’t believe it’s already December 17th! Where does time go? My family and I have started our seasonal eating and game nights (fun!), and one of this year’s Christmas highlights for me has already happened: the Christmas pageant put on by the tiny church I attend. The kids told the Christmas story from the animals’ perspective–super cute, but also a good message to me personally. I sometimes I wish I attended a big church with a huge choir because I enjoy singing and music so much, especially at this time of year–so it was very powerful to be reminded that Jesus was born in the humblest of settings in a little out the way place . . . and He was right where He needed to be.

I hope you’re finding quiet times for reflection this busy month, too–but also wish you lots of merry, boisterous fun as you celebrate what God has done.

And if you have your own special holiday highlight already this year, I’d love to hear it!

🙂 Toni

p.s. In story news, I’ve received a few notes and comments re: DRUMMER BOY and just wanted to say thank you! It makes my day to hear when someone has enjoyed one of my stories. 🙂

If any of you would be so kind as to make your comments official and leave reviews on Amazon, the publisher’s website, or anywhere else online you talk about books, I’d really appreciate it.

Both DRUMMER BOY and THE PRESENT are available wherever you like to buy your favourite e-reads!

November 13, 2014

Dear Readers,

Yay! I just received one of the loveliest e-mails you can get as an author: a confirmed release date. 🙂

Drummer Boy by Toni SheridanDRUMMER BOY, a completely stand-on-its-own sequel to THE PRESENT, hits digital shelves Monday, December 1, 2014 noon-ish. Set aside the afternoon for a cozy tea and reading session now, lol.

Curious about what DRUMMER BOY’S about? I thought you might be!

In one sentence: Commitment phobe Jane and resigned-to-be-a-bachelor Tim think they should stay single; God has other plans. 🙂

In more than one sentence, heh, heh: Fun-loving, feisty Jane is an independent girl, with a family history that’s convinced her marriage is not for her—or that’s the image she projects, until a bad accident shakes her to the core and makes her question what she builds her self-worth on.

Tim, a rock drummer turned pastor and youth worker, thinks he’s content with, maybe even called to, the single life, but is that God’s will, or Tim’s mistaken conviction, a way to keep punishing himself for mistakes in his past?

When Jane and Tim meet through Tim’s young niece, they’re surprised by their instant attraction and sense of connection. Will they trust God’s leading, or will they continue to let fear and pride keep them from fully experiencing God’s blessing?

I hope you’ll check on DRUMMER BOY this December, and if you enjoy it, I’d be honored if you spread the word or left me a review.

In the meantime, happy reading and preparing for Christmas!

God bless,
Ev

p.s. If you haven’t read THE PRESENT yet and would like to before you read DRUMMER BOY, you’re very fortunate indeed. 🙂 🙂 It’s on sale right now for just .99 cents. Follow the link above to buy directly from the publisher, or just search The Present by Toni Sheridan at Amazon, or Kobo, etc. Thanks. I hope you like it!

Drummer Boy!

August 23, 2014

Received images of the cover art for DRUMMER BOY today. Fun! I’m not one to rush summer away, but I am looking forward to fall and winter cozy reads. 🙂 Drummer Boy by Toni Sheridan

Christmas in July

July 10, 2013

I’m very excited to say that I’ve finished the second draft of LITTLE DRUMMER BOY and have sent it to my first readers. I loved getting to know Jane (Candy’s sister in THE PRESENT) better, and hope, in a few months, readers will too.

It’s a bit surreal to write Christmas stories in the warm months. On Sunday I spent the afternoon on the beach, then came home and wrote a snowy December evening scene. Fortunately I live in a place where extreme weather is the norm, so although the day didn’t lend weather inspiration, cup of coffee in hand, snuggled away in my office, the sun blocked from view by a wall of cedar trees, I easily recalled wintry days (so much so, I had to grab a sweater!).  🙂

It’s also surreal to me how the ways my characters grow and change affect me, personally. I’d have thought, if anything, I’d have a few things to teach young Jane, but as she works through feelings of inadequacy after an accident leaves her physically unable to do all the things she loves to do and, unwittingly, based her identity on, I was challenged. I too sometimes worry more about my outer actions, productivity, and the face I present to the world than on what condition my heart and my spirit are in.

Like Jane, I’ll be working on that (probably, forever)!

I hope you’re having a wonderful summer—and if, like me, you’re in the mood for a little Christmas in July, check out THE PRESENT. I think it’s an enjoyable story any time of the year, and it will give you a bit of an introduction to LITTLE DRUMMER BOY’S leading lady, Jane.

Writing . . . procrastinating . . . repeat. :)

March 9, 2013

Hey, all . . .

In January I promised I’d provide the odd progress report, so here goes.

I have a working title for Jane’s story now . . . Little Drummer Boy.

At this point I have no idea whether Jane will let go of her pride and insecurity and let herself love and be loved . . . but I am rooting for her and her drummer boy–if only so I can finish the rough draft, lol. 🙂

And speaking of rough drafts (Insert drum roll, please–one that’s not related to the title!) I think I’ll have it finished the end of this month.

A new year, a new book . . .

January 21, 2013

It’s too early to give many details, but I’m happy to announce that Candy’s sister Jane (from The Present), who started  clamoring in my head for a story of her own before Candy’s was even finished, got her way. I’ve been having a lot of fun with Jane’s tale, which may just be a Christmas romance, too . . . OK, actually, I already know it is. 🙂

I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

Sneaking a quiet moment to read?

December 22, 2012

The more I have to do in life (at this moment, Christmas food shopping, present wrapping, a brunch date with my sister and stepmom, planning for dishes to bring to two different events), the more I like to (need to!) sneak away with a good book or pop online for a little read.

If you’re looking for Christmassy inspiration that can be read in short moments between chores, check out Fay Lamb’s wonderful blog On the Edge. She has a different guest authors for each day in December sharing memories and thoughts about their own Christmases–that will inevitably turn your mind to details of your own special days, past and present.

And if you’re looking for something cozy to sink into on the couch or in your comfiest chair? Each of Fay’s guest bloggers has written one or more Christmas novels for your reading pleasure!

The Present has arrived!

November 22, 2012

Okay, I lied by accident . . . I thought THE PRESENT wouldn’t hit the presses ’til December 19th, but it’s actually ready now. Yay! It can be purchased from Amazon here, for Nook here, or directly from Pelican Books’ website here. If you need ePub choose the latter, and disregard the small print near the purchase link that says it’s not available until December 1st because it just isn’t true! 😀

I’d love to hear from you if you read THE PRESENT, and I hope you enjoy it! And if you feel moved to review the story and rate it on either Amazon or Pelican Books (it may be available on Smashwords later, too), I’d love that too – very much.  I’m not asking for friendly five’s, however, unless they’re honest. Please say how you really feel about the story, er . . . unless you really hate it, lol.

Happy pre-Christmas reading! Hopefully THE PRESENT will be a fun part of your holiday season.

THE PRESENT – coming soon!
